It took longer than I expected, and since there was almost no one behind me, I felt a little anxious. My phone battery also died, so I should have made sure to have a backup way to contact people just in case. Aside from the rice at dinner being a bit too soft—which I don’t usually like—the meal was delicious. Other than the weather, it was a great hike! Thank you very much.

It sounds like the trail took longer than expected, and passing so few other hikers later on must have felt a bit unnerving. Phone battery is definitely something to watch closely in the mountains. We were a group of three visiting for the first time. Sky Plaza felt like a space you wouldn’t expect to find on top of a mountain, and we enjoyed a delicious cake set featuring a pear tart. The main course for dinner was Western-style chicken, which we ate with miso soup and rice. The shared Japanese-style room accommodated eight people, with each person having one tatami mat’s worth of space. It was conveniently located on the first floor of Building 2, close to the restrooms and the dining hall. The TV in the lounge was tuned to Toyama Broadcasting, and we watched a live sumo broadcast. The restrooms, equipped with Washlet bidets, were truly impressive.

I stayed in a semi-private room. I thought it would be better if the side walls of the semi-private rooms were completely sealed off from the neighboring rooms. It was a beautiful mountain lodge in a wonderful location. The restrooms were clean, which was great. I’d love to stay there again.

Overall, it was a very nice mountain lodge. In particular, the beef stew I had for dinner at Sky Plaza will be a memory I’ll cherish for the rest of my life. However, regarding the portion size of the rice at breakfast, I was told, “You can have seconds,” so I asked for a small bowl. I didn’t realize that to get a second helping, I’d have to stand at the very front of a long line. I would appreciate it if you could consider measures such as providing a separate rice tub for seconds.

As you'd expect from Japan's first mountain hotel, I had a very comfortable stay. The advice from the mountain guide, the delicious meals, the draft beer, the spotlessly clean and well-maintained facilities, Wi-Fi, charging ports, the Washlet, and more. 🥰

The staff at the mountain lodge were very courteous. And, as expected, it’s the largest mountain lodge in Japan. It felt like a mountain lodge overseas, which was a lot of fun. It’s definitely become one of the mountain lodges I’d love to visit again.

Is this really a mountain lodge? It felt just like staying at a traditional inn. Since I had a private room, the atmosphere was calm, and I was able to really relax. The restroom even had a bidet and felt very clean. Since it’s a large mountain lodge, dinner was served in shifts. We couldn’t choose our time slot—I guess they assigned them based on arrival order? The portion sizes were just right, and the food was delicious. However, I think due to rising fuel costs and inflation, the beer prices were the highest I’ve ever seen at a mountain lodge: 1,200 yen for draft beer and 1,000 yen for a 500ml can. Breakfast was served at Sky Plaza with a spectacular view, though it was a bit foggy—which is common, of course. It was great that they served coffee after the meal. I had ordered a bento box, but there was no explanation of when I could pick it up, and I hadn’t received a voucher either. When I asked at the dining hall in the morning, I was told to go to the front desk; when I went there, I was met with a look that suggested I’d lost the voucher. I wish they had provided a polite explanation and shown some remorse. The Brocken spectre, ptarmigans, and various wildflowers—it was a whirlwind of wonder. Since the pandemic, all mountain huts have adopted a reservation system, and it’s quite difficult to secure a reservation in the Northern Alps as easily as I’d like. This time, too, I waited online at the start of the booking period to secure a reservation. I feel that the deposit system makes it difficult to make changes when traveling in a large group. This time, one person had to cancel due to illness. Since some people might insist on climbing anyway, it would be helpful if the period during which the deposit is charged could be set to end just before the scheduled stay. I was able to relax thoroughly—thank you very much.

The reservation system was excellent; entering my course and companion information in advance made check-in go very smoothly. It was a shame I arrived later than planned and didn’t have time to browse the gift shop. There is Wi-Fi, but there were no signs in the hallways or common areas; I found the password at the front desk the next morning when I was checking out. It’s also great that, even though it’s on top of a mountain, drinking water is free and available from the tap. The meals were delicious, too. You can get unlimited refills of rice and miso soup!

Thanks for letting us know about the Wi-Fi password not being posted anywhere in the hallway or common room — we'll look at how we can make that easier to find.
