I was surprised at how clean the restrooms were. The rooms were cozy and comfortable to use. The changing rooms were also clean, spacious, and easy to use, and the dining hall was spacious and comfortable. Check-in was very smooth since they used QR code scanning. The young staff members were friendly and really lifted my spirits. I thought the dining hall was colder than I expected, and it was inconvenient that the beer vending machine wouldn’t accept new bills. It was a comfortable stay, so I’d like to stay there again.

The Sky Restaurant had a great location. The dinner and the damp futons were a letdown.

The room itself was fine, but it felt a bit damp—maybe because it was the rainy season. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming, which made me feel really good. The food was delicious.

My travel companion was having trouble with their leg, so we ended up arriving at the mountain lodge later than planned. Before we arrived, a staff member called to check on us, and they even upgraded our room from a 6-person room to an 8-person room—we were given a very warm welcome. After that, my companion became so exhausted that they couldn’t get up from their bed and were unable to go to the dining hall for dinner. Even then, the dining hall staff showed concern for my companion’s well-being, offering kind words: “If you start to feel unwell, we have medicine available, so please don’t hesitate to let us know.” Furthermore, they packed dinner into a takeout container for my companion who was resting in the room. Thanks to this, my companion recovered overnight and was able to enjoy the second day’s hike. I would like to express my deepest gratitude to all the staff members for their wonderful thoughtfulness and assistance. Thank you very much indeed.

Due to bad weather, I ended up staying for consecutive nights. Since my dinner voucher said “consecutive,” I expected a different menu from the previous day, but I was disappointed to find it was the same. Since it’s a mountain lodge, I understand it might be difficult to change the menu for guests staying multiple nights. However, since Hakuba Sanso has a fine restaurant, I wish they had at least offered a dinner menu there—at a price comparable to the restaurant’s dinner—even if it was just for dinner. I would have been happy with something like curry rice or a Shinshu rice bowl.
