I was a little dissatisfied with the room. I understand that shared rooms are unavoidable, but I wish they had spaced the groups out a bit more. Also, perhaps because the room was completely sealed off, the air quality was very poor and the room temperature was high, so I couldn't sleep at all, which was a shame.
From StaffThank you for staying with us. We're sorry the air and temperature in the room kept you from getting any real rest. We will take your feedback, including your request for more space between groups, into consideration. We hope you're able to rest well on your next trip to the mountains.

It would be nice if there were a few more benches outside. The cafeteria is nice and a good place to take a break, but when I arrive, I’d like to sit outside for a little while.
From StaffWe're glad you were able to relax in our dining hall. We understand the wish to sit outside and catch your breath while taking in the view after arriving. We will take your suggestion about more outdoor benches into consideration. We hope to welcome you back to the mountains of Hakuba, in the Japanese Alps.

This was my first time staying here for multiple nights in 10 years. Above all, I was thrilled to see that the restrooms were so clean. Of course, I’m used to staying in places where they’re usually smelly and dirty… so I really appreciated this. I’m in my mid-60s and my stamina is starting to wane, so I’m thinking this might be my last time here. Since Tsugaike Hütte is my favorite, I plan to keep staying at the hütte for many years to come.
From StaffThank you for staying with us for several nights after so many years, and we're so glad you were pleased with the renewed restrooms. Your words that this may have been your last visit up here touched us deeply. We're truly grateful that you plan to keep staying at Tsugaike Hutte for years to come, and we hope you'll continue to enjoy your time in the mountains of Hakuba, whether up high or closer to the foot of the mountains. We will always look forward to welcoming you back to the mountains of Hakuba, in the Japanese Alps.

It was a semi-private room, but I was able to relax quietly. However, since the lighting didn’t reach that part of the room—even before lights-out—it was a bit of a hassle to pack my bags. I understand it’s necessary to conserve electricity, so I suppose it can’t be helped, but that was a slight disappointment. The toilet was flushable and clean, which was great. Also, the drinking water was free, which was a huge help. As for the meals, I really liked the breakfast menu—it had a great variety. The weather wasn’t great this time, so next time I’d like to visit a place with better weather.
From StaffWe're so glad you were able to relax quietly, and that you appreciated the restrooms, drinking water, and our varied breakfast. Thank you for your understanding regarding the limited electricity available in the mountains, which affects the room lighting. A headlamp can make packing much easier. We will take your feedback into consideration. We hope to welcome you back to the mountains of Hakuba, in the Japanese Alps, under clear skies next time.

I stayed at Hakuba Sanso for one night starting on September 19, so I’ll base my review on that experience. For my overall rating, I’ve averaged the scores across each evaluation category and rated it as “Good.” Below, I’ll provide details on each evaluation category. First, regarding the baths: Since Hakuba Sanso does not have any, I will exclude this from the evaluation criteria. Next, regarding meals: Both dinner and breakfast were very satisfying in terms of portion size and taste. As for the menu, I felt that dinner was thoughtfully designed to provide the nutrients needed to recover from the fatigue of mountain climbing. Breakfast featured a fish-based menu, and I appreciated the effort made to ensure the food was easy to eat. As for the room, since seven of us stayed in an 8-tatami-mat Japanese-style room, it did feel a bit cramped at times. However, it provided a great opportunity for close interaction with more experienced mountain travelers, and we had a wonderful time. The bedding was clean; although I had brought my own fitted sheet, I didn’t feel it was necessary. As for the service, since our interactions were limited to the front desk and mealtimes, my evaluation is based on those experiences. The front desk staff provided standard service—nothing particularly noteworthy. During meals, however, the staff worked hard, even clearing away dishes for us.
From StaffThank you for taking the time to share such a thoughtful review of each aspect of your stay. We're delighted you enjoyed our meals, from a dinner designed with tired climbers in mind to an easy-to-enjoy breakfast. Although the room felt a little crowded at times, we're happy you enjoyed connecting with fellow mountain travelers, one of the special encounters that mountain huts offer. Hearing that you found the bedding clean is encouraging, too. We hope to welcome you back to the mountains of Hakuba, in the Japanese Alps.

I’ve stayed here twice. 1) The first time, I injured my ankle. When I spoke with the front desk staff, they gave me some medicated patches, and I was able to make it safely back down the mountain. 2) Following my first stay, I had the good fortune to book a second stay here. The food is always delicious, and I can see that the lodge’s philosophy and commitment to hikers—such as their efforts to serve warm meals—are reflected in the cuisine. Furthermore, their consistent attention to hygiene in the restrooms, washrooms, and other areas is nothing short of commendable. That is all.
From StaffThank you for staying with us a second time. We were truly relieved to hear that you made it down safely after hurting your ankle on your first visit. It's very encouraging to know you enjoyed our warm meals and the care we put into keeping the lodge clean. We'll keep doing our best so that every climber can stay with peace of mind. We hope to welcome you back to the mountains of Hakuba, in the Japanese Alps.

Thank you for your continued support. It truly was a resort in the sky. The Washlet and sink were absolutely amazing. I think women would feel right at home here, too.
From StaffBeing called a resort in the sky is such a wonderful compliment. From the washlet toilets to the washbasins, we hope to keep the lodge a place where everyone can feel safe and comfortable. We hope to welcome you back to the mountains of Hakuba, in the Japanese Alps.

I was able to spend some leisurely time at a mountain hut deep in the Mount Hakuba range. Here are some of the things that left a lasting impression on me. A two-tatami-mat private room… It provided a truly private space. Meals… Not only were they delicious, but the service was well-organized, allowing me to enjoy them without any stress. Restrooms... They were clean and designed to prevent the unpleasant odors often found in other mountain huts.
From StaffWe're so glad you were able to enjoy some unhurried time near the summit of Mt. Hakuba. Hearing that you appreciated the privacy of your room, meals you could enjoy without stress, and the comfort of our restrooms truly encourages us. We hope to keep making the lodge a place where every guest can feel at ease. We hope to welcome you back to the mountains of Hakuba, in the Japanese Alps.

Since it was a large room, I had to put up with certain things while sleeping. Half of the guests took turns snoring, so I couldn't sleep soundly all night.
Thank you for staying with us. We're sorry to hear that snoring and other noise in the shared room kept you from getting a good night's rest. With many guests sharing a limited space in a mountain lodge, this can be difficult to avoid entirely, but we also offer private rooms for those who prefer a quieter night. We hope you'll keep them in mind for your next trip. We hope to welcome you back to the mountains of Hakuba, in the Japanese Alps.
