After rescheduling several times, we finally made it to this mountain lodge. The restrooms had been beautifully renovated, and the heated toilet seats were warm and comfortable. The rice was truly delicious, and the soup warmed us right up—it really recharged our energy. This place is exceptionally well-equipped, with a drying room, a lounge, and heating—all providing a relaxing atmosphere. Although there’s plenty of water, the water didn’t come out at the sinks in the morning, so everyone who brushed their teeth or washed their faces without realizing it was left in a bind. The dining hall is very spacious and the food was excellent; the Sky Plaza building has an open, airy feel and the views are spectacular. It’s the perfect spot to gaze out at Mt. Shakushi. I plan to take on Mt. Hakuba again next year and come back here. Thank you very much.
From StaffAfter several changes to your plans, we’re so happy you finally made it and had such a comfortable stay. We’re delighted you enjoyed everything from the restrooms and meals to the drying room, lounge, and the view of Mt. Shakushi from the Sky Plaza. Water is a limited and precious resource in the mountains, so we sometimes restrict its use at certain times of day. We’re sorry for the inconvenience and appreciate your understanding. We look forward to welcoming you back to the mountains of Hakuba, in the Japanese Alps, for your next climb of Mt. Hakuba.

I stayed during a busy season, but I had a comfortable stay without any issues. Thank you very much. Overall, the system was easy to understand, and I thought it was a great mountain lodge. I stayed in a semi-private room, but there was one thing that bothered me: since there was no lighting inside the room, I had to use a headlamp the entire time I was there due to the room’s location. In other rooms, there were spots where light from the hallway seemed to reach, so I felt a little envious. In any case, overall, I had a very comfortable stay. The restrooms, in particular, were wonderful. I would definitely like to visit again. Thank you very much.
From StaffWe’re so glad you had a comfortable stay even during such a busy time, and that you found our system easy to follow and the restrooms so pleasant. Thank you also for your feedback on lighting in the room, which we’ll keep in mind going forward. We look forward to welcoming you back to the mountains of Hakuba, in the Japanese Alps.

It was a semi-private room on the third floor, but it was so cold that I couldn’t sleep properly. I got into bed wearing long sleeves, long pants, and even a light down jacket, but I was still cold. I’d like them to either turn on the heat depending on the day’s temperature, provide thicker bedding, or take measures to stop the drafts.
From StaffThank you for staying with us, and we’re truly sorry the cold kept you from sleeping well despite dressing so warmly. Temperatures drop sharply at night near the summit, and we’ll use your specific feedback to review how we run the heating, our bedding, and measures against drafts. We hope for another chance to give you a warm and restful night in the mountains of Hakuba, in the Japanese Alps.

Dinner was the same as the night before at Tsugaike Hutte—fried chicken. Since we were in the same group, it would have been nice if the menu hadn’t been the same.
From StaffThank you for staying with us, and we’re sorry your dinner was the same as the night before at Tsugaike Hütte. Our lodges usually offer different menus, so we apologize that they overlapped this time. We’ll work to make sure guests traveling between our lodges can enjoy meals unique to each one. We hope to welcome you back to the mountains of Hakuba, in the Japanese Alps.

This was my second time staying at a mountain hut, and the hut itself was very well-maintained, so I had a comfortable stay. I was especially surprised by how clean the restrooms were. I was very satisfied with how clean the bathroom facilities were. There was also a changing room, which I found very convenient. The charging stations were a great help, and while there were plenty available for guests, I did have to wait a bit to charge my devices, so it might be worth adding a few more. The room was just for sleeping—once the futon was laid out, there was no space left, so we had to leave our luggage in the hallway. The room was very cold during the day, and I was worried about whether I’d be able to sleep at night, but after bundling up, I ended up sweating, so it was warm enough and I slept comfortably.
From StaffWe’re so glad your second mountain hut stay was a comfortable one, and that you were happy with the restrooms, washrooms, and changing room. Thank you for your feedback on the number of charging stations, which we’ll keep in mind. We’re also relieved to hear that bundling up kept you warm enough to sleep soundly on a chilly night. We hope to welcome you back to the mountains of Hakuba, in the Japanese Alps.

I think it would be great if there were a hot water service—even if it cost money—because then I could dry off with a towel (500 mL / 300 yen).
From StaffThank you for staying with us, and for your specific suggestion about providing hot water. Both water and hot water are very precious up in the mountains, but we’ll take your idea into account as we consider ways to help guests freshen up after a day of hiking. We hope to welcome you back to the mountains of Hakuba, in the Japanese Alps.

We were served two oyaki for breakfast, but both tasted the same—like apple-flavored red bean paste. I wish one of them had been a different flavor, like nozawana. It was a huge help to receive a free bottle of Amino Vital. I drank it right after receiving it at the front desk, and I think it helped reduce my fatigue. The miso soup served with dinner was packed with ingredients and very delicious, and I was happy that I could have seconds. I’d love to stay here again.
From StaffWe’re so glad the Amino Vital helped ease your fatigue, and that you enjoyed the hearty miso soup and refills at dinner. Thank you also for your thoughts on the flavor of the oyaki at breakfast, which we’ll keep in mind going forward. We hope to welcome you back to the mountains of Hakuba, in the Japanese Alps.

I had a very comfortable stay—thank you so much. The meals were also delicious and very hearty; it was the best I’ve ever had. When I went to get some drinking water, there was a sign that said something like, “Please use the water in the washroom for washing your face and brushing your teeth.” So I asked a female staff member, “Where is the washroom?” She replied very rudely, “Huh? What do you mean, ‘washroom’? “Do you mean washing your face? It’s in front of the restroom, so please do it there,” she replied very rudely. I was deeply shocked by this lack of basic hospitality. Perhaps she responded that way because I approached her during a busy time, but being spoken to in such a harsh manner made me feel very sad.
From StaffThank you for staying with us. While we’re glad you enjoyed the meals, we sincerely apologize that the way one of our staff spoke to you left you feeling hurt. No matter how busy we are, responding to every guest with courtesy is fundamental to what we do. We take your feedback very seriously and will review our approach to guest service across our entire team. We would be grateful for another chance to welcome you comfortably to the mountains of Hakuba, in the Japanese Alps, someday.

I stayed for two nights, and you took such good care of me—I had a wonderful time. Thank you very much. If you’d like to consider this for the future, I’d like to offer three suggestions and ask one question. During the 120th-anniversary lecture, I heard that the area is known as “White Horse of Water,” and that because of this, the land must be renovated once every 50 years. However, during my two-night stay, the water pressure was poor in the mornings on both days—especially on the second day, when there was almost no water at all, causing trouble for many guests. My dinner ticket for the second day was a different color than those of the other guests. I had expected that the dinner on the second night of a consecutive stay would be different from the first, but it was exactly the same as the previous day’s—and served at the same time as everyone else’s. Since I had gotten my hopes up, I thought it would have been better if my dinner ticket for the second day had been the same as everyone else’s. Why was I given a different-colored voucher? Incidentally, at other mountain lodges, I was served a different dinner when staying for multiple nights. When I checked in on the first day, I specifically mentioned that I would be staying for multiple nights, but the receptionist seemed completely unaware of this, which made me feel very distrustful. I apologize for repeating myself, but this never happened at other mountain lodges. You might just brush this off with a laugh, saying it’s unavoidable when staying in a shared room, but here’s what happened when I was assigned to a four-person room on the second day. I was the first to enter the room and was taking a nap when suddenly someone with an overwhelmingly strong body odor walked in. I was woken up and immediately left the room, wandering around until 8:00 PM. I reluctantly returned to the room, and by then the smell had faded considerably, so I went to sleep. However, around 3:00 a.m., when that person woke up, the smell returned. I tried covering myself with the futon to cope, but in the end, I couldn’t fall back asleep. In situations like this, is it possible to move my futon to the lounge and sleep there?
Thank you for staying with us for two nights, and for your thoughtful feedback. Water is a limited and precious resource in the mountains, so its flow can weaken depending on the time of day and conditions. We’re sorry for the inconvenience and appreciate your understanding. For guests staying consecutive nights, we usually serve a different dinner on the second night, and we apologize that we were unable to do so this time. We’ll also review how information is shared among our staff, including making sure reception is aware of multi-night stays. If anything about your room concerns you, please speak with our staff before lights-out. While we may not always be able to accommodate requests depending on how busy we are, we’ll consider what we can do. We’ll work to make your next stay in the mountains of Hakuba, in the Japanese Alps, an even better one.
