The Washlet and free Wi-Fi are fantastic. The sleeping berths at Kaiko-na are narrow and feel a bit cramped. Overall, though, it’s a very nice mountain hut.

The portion of curry for dinner was simply too large; I found it quite a struggle to finish every last grain. The woman sitting next to me only ate half of hers. I thought to myself that leaving leftovers in the mountains didn’t seem quite right. Since we could get unlimited refills, maybe they should reduce the initial portion size a bit? One young man took on the “Five Dragons” challenge—a second helping—and actually managed to finish the whole thing. Impressive. The mountain lodge staff were efficient and professional, which was very reassuring. The restrooms were very clean and comfortable.

The restroom is fantastic. It’s my first time using a Washlet. Thank you very much. I personally love curry, so that was a nice touch. I’d love to stay here again if I get the chance.

I was happy that the restroom was clean and that the room had not only electrical outlets but also USB Type-A and Type-C ports. The check-in process was also innovative, as it involved simply entering information on a tablet and scanning a QR code.

While it’s understandable that the water pressure isn’t great right at the summit, the restroom facilities and other amenities at the Northern Alps Summit were excellent, and I was truly impressed by how cheerfully the staff greeted me whenever we passed each other in the hallway. I’ve heard that the Goryu Mountain Lodge used to get extremely crowded back in the days before the COVID-19 pandemic, when they had a “no one turned away” policy—partly due to its location. My father, whose memory is a bit hazy, wasn’t able to go there very often due to the times, but among his few traverse experiences, the one where he had to squeeze into an overcrowded mountain hut by alternating the direction of his face and feet—sleeping with someone else’s feet right in front of his face—was most likely at Goryu Mountain Lodge (this was over 50 years ago). Times have changed; it now operates on a reservation system with no overcrowding. Still, it’s a hugely popular mountain hut that’s nearly full even on weekday nights. The food lives up to its reputation—it’s delicious (the breakfast bento was even better than I expected). The restrooms are basic but equipped with bidet functions. With excellent smartphone charging facilities and more, it was so comfortable that I found myself wondering how my father—who used to hike long ago—would feel about it. Thank you so much. It was a wonderful hike.

The breakfast was the best I’ve ever had at a mountain lodge. I don’t eat much, so I usually leave some rice in my curry, but I finished every last bite of breakfast. The room was clean, and best of all—the toilet didn’t smell! Even the outdoor toilet didn’t smell—I was really surprised by that! The staff were efficient and pleasant, and it was a really great lodge. The only downside was that it was overcast the whole time. I’d love to come back when the weather is nice.

Mount Goryu—I’ve always dreamed of visiting it. The scenery, the mountain hut, and the staff’s hospitality were all top-notch. The rooms and restrooms were incredibly clean—just like a hotel. I definitely want to go back!
