We encountered bad weather during this hike, but the staff took the initiative to let us know about the conditions along the rest of the trail—that was very thoughtful!

Last time, during the COVID-19 pandemic, I had to sleep in a tent. This time, I was glad I could stay in a regular room. After arriving, I wanted to take a short walk, so I asked for the later dinner seating, but they wouldn’t accommodate me. It would’ve been nice if they’d been a little more flexible. There was no TV in the dining hall, but the Wi-Fi was working, so I was able to check the weather forecast myself. Mountain lodge Wi-Fi—that was pretty nice. As for dinner, sure enough, (as is often the case), the rice was a bit hard. The hamburger steak next to me seemed to have some parts that weren’t fully cooked. For the morning bento, I chose the bread option since they offered it. It was nice to be able to eat little by little. My room was on the first floor, which made it easy to get in and out. After staying one night, I was able to attempt my goal, Mount Shorenja, and it was great to see the magnificent morning scenery. All in all, being able to stay at the mountain hut allowed me to plan a great itinerary.

This was my first time camping in a tent, but the location was wonderful, the staff at the lodge were very kind, and the water stations and restrooms were convenient—I can’t thank you enough. I was also thrilled by how delicious the boxed lunch I ordered was! I definitely hope to visit again. Thank you so much!

I used the campground. It was easy to set up a tent there, and there were just the right amount of rocks. The snack bar serves meals like Chinese rice bowls until 2:00 p.m. and sells drinks and bread until 4:00 p.m. I couldn’t get any cell phone reception at the campground at all (Docomo, au), but when I asked a staff member at the snack bar, they were happy to tell me where I could get a signal.

I spent the night in a tent here. I’d like to thank the woman at the front desk for her very kind service. As rumored, the campsite was flat and free of gravel, making for a stress-free experience. The location was also fantastic, so I’d like to come back for a more leisurely hike next time.

Since I stayed for several nights, I was really happy (and it was delicious) that the dinner menu changed from hamburger steak to fried shrimp and other dishes. I was also happy to see the Hakuba Oike Mountain Lodge from Funakoshi-no-Atama ♪

It’s a mountain cabin by the pond that looks very charming from the outside. I think it would be great if there were a bench and a table by the pond where you could sit and enjoy a cup of coffee. If flying cars become a reality in the future, this place could become a popular resort destination. It’s often fully booked, so I wish it were a little easier to make a reservation.

The stargazing event was originally scheduled for 8:30 p.m., but they held it at 2:30 a.m. instead. I was really moved to see the weather clear up from hazy to perfectly clear by that time. Thank you so much!! ♪♪ I’d like to request that they do something about the smell in the restrooms.

Last year, we hiked straight from Tsugaike to Hakuba Sanso, but the weather turned bad in the afternoon and it was quite difficult, so this year we stayed at Oike to ensure a safer trip. One of my companions suffered a minor sprain at a spot just before Oike where there were lots of large rocks. Since we didn’t have any pain relief patches with us, I asked the staff at the mountain lodge reception if we could buy some. They didn’t have any for sale, of course, and just as I was feeling disappointed, they kindly gave me two from their first-aid kit, which was a huge help. From now on, I want to make sure I’m fully prepared for such accidents before heading into the mountains. We had a wonderful time and would love to visit again. Thank you for the lovely experience.
