I had a relaxing time at Yari Onsen, a place I’d long wanted to visit. The cabin was spacious and comfortable. Thank you very much.

I had mentioned in advance that my son has an intellectual disability, so I really appreciate the consideration you showed us on the day of our visit. The open-air bath was a little too hot (though still within acceptable limits).

I was deeply moved to see the Yan Hot Spring Cabin—which is only open in the summer—with my own eyes. It was such a treat to soak in the hot springs after hiking. I hope I’ll have the chance to visit again someday. Thank you to the staff for all your hard work!

Considering that it’s a cabin in a heavy-snow region that gets destroyed and rebuilt every year, I think the facilities are generally adequate. The staff were all cheerful and friendly, and I had a pleasant stay. However, there are just two areas where I’d appreciate some improvements, both of which relate to gender considerations. First, the restrooms are shared by men and women, but the men’s urinals are lined up right as you enter. Since there are two restrooms—one for overnight guests and one for day-use campers—I think it would be better if one of them could be designated as men-only or women-only. Also, since many women shared this opinion, I’d really like to see an improvement regarding the etiquette for the open-air bath. Many men enter completely naked without even a towel, so women felt very hesitant to enter, even when wearing swimsuits. While it’s fine while they’re in the bath, I would appreciate it if the inn could ask men to wrap a towel around themselves while they’re cooling off after getting out of the bath. Alternatively, I’d like to see the women-only hours extended a bit more. It’s a shame to have to give up on the open-air bath for this reason after going to all that trouble to get there. While online reservations have made it more convenient, attracting both international visitors and guests of all ages, I feel that treating men bathing completely naked in a mixed-gender bath as the norm is a bit outdated. Please consider establishing rules that allow everyone to enjoy the hot springs comfortably.

On this hiking trip, I stayed at a mountain lodge with hot springs for the first time, and the open-air hot spring where I could soak while taking in the view was absolutely amazing. I was able to soothe the fatigue from the hike by soaking three times—once after check-in, once after dinner, and once after waking up the next morning.

Compared to when I stayed here before, there were more men wearing swimsuits in the baths, so I was able to enjoy the mixed-gender baths without feeling self-conscious. I’m grateful for the abundant supply of water.

It was really great to be able to soak in the hot springs. I was surprised to see that even in the mixed-gender bath, many of the men were wearing swimsuits. The hayashi rice for dinner was delicious. Plus, I was happy that I could get a second helping.
