It was fully booked, so things were a little hectic. However, at check-in, they offered words of consideration—saying something like, “We’re fully booked, so we apologize for any inconvenience”—which helped me prepare myself for sharing a room, so I thought that was really great.

The fried shrimp I had for dinner on the second night of my two-night stay was absolutely delicious. But I’d be even happier if you could bring back the tonkatsu curry, which is a specialty of Hakuba Oike Sanso.

It's a typical mountain lodge. It's a shame there's no lounge, and the shared rooms lack lighting and electrical outlets.

I’ve been camping in a tent for many years, but this was my first time staying at a mountain hut that included dinner. While my impressions are based on a comparison with tent camping, I was truly grateful for even the most basic services. The weather forecast information and advice, the self-service hot water, and the practice of having hikers clear their own tables after meals—which helped foster interaction among hikers—were all excellent services.

I wanted to extend my stay, so I asked about availability, but I was told to check the website. I tried to check, but I had no cell service (DOCOMO), so I couldn’t get the information. Did the signal work inside the mountain hut?
