I stayed there on August 2. After dinner, the overcast weather cleared up, and I was able to climb Mt. Hakuba and enjoy the magnificent views. Afterward, inside the Sky Plaza, I had the opportunity to hear from the great-grandson of Mr. Sadaichi Matsuzawa about the history of Hakuba Sanso, as well as the introduction of flush toilets and the use of drones to transport supplies—new initiatives for the mountain lodge—and activities that provided valuable insights, such as the challenges of overland transport for relief supplies due to road blockages caused by the Kumamoto Earthquake. We also enjoyed stargazing afterward, making for a very fulfilling experience. One thing that bothered me was that, while I understand there are many guests, I think the drying strength in the drying room could have been adjusted to be a bit stronger.

・This is a mountain lodge I’d love to visit again. ・The staff are highly professional. (Concise explanations, clear instructions, and efficient movements.) ・I recommend bringing your own sheet for bedtime. ・You can get seconds on the rice and miso soup.

This is my second time staying here. Since it can accommodate a large number of guests, we were able to sleep comfortably even with a big group. I had as many seconds as I wanted for dinner and am completely full. The breakfast bento was delicious, and I was very satisfied.

The staff were excellent. They even told us where to find the Shikotan grass. The room was decent for a mountain lodge, but as for the meals—both dinner and breakfast—even for a mountain lodge, they were a bit lacking. Compared to my limited experience staying at other mountain lodges in the past, I’d give this a lower rating. The boxed lunches were good, though. It seems they’ve focused on the Sky Plaza, and the mountain lodge cuisine feels a bit outdated.

After climbing the Great Snowfield and arriving completely exhausted, the check-in process and the warm hospitality made all my fatigue melt away. I stayed in a shared Japanese-style room, but there was plenty of space, so I was able to rest comfortably. The restrooms were clean, and above all, the heated toilet seats were fantastic! Dinner was delicious. I ordered a bento box for breakfast, and it came with plenty of side dishes—I was very satisfied. At the observation restaurant, I was able to savor a draft beer right after arriving and bask in the afterglow of the day. The next day, after summiting Mt. Shakushi and Mt. Hakuba-Yarigatake, I had a cake set—and that was absolutely fantastic too! I thought that next time, I might try having dinner at the restaurant. This is a mountain lodge I’d love to visit again. I stayed in a Western-style room in Building 3 for one night from August 5th to 6th. The staff were incredibly kind from check-in to check-out, and it completely soothed the fatigue from my hike. The draft beer at Sky Plaza was the best I’ve ever had in my life❗️ In the evening, when I looked out the window, I saw a parent and child ptarmigan playing at a stone wall construction site. They were so cute that I took a photo. The next morning was beautifully clear, and I was moved to see the sunrise❗️ The facility was spotlessly clean and felt very fresh. The restrooms even had Washlet toilets—they were so clean, I couldn’t believe I was in a mountain lodge. It’s a bit of a hike to get there, but I’d love to plan another trip. Thank you so much—I’m truly grateful.

Hakuba Mountain Lodge is exceptionally well-organized; the flow of 800 diners and their meal times are managed very smoothly, which is something worth learning from. Having hiked frequently in Taiwan, I can say that, by comparison, Japanese mountain huts are like paradise. Nature is incredibly therapeutic, and with the good weather adding to the experience, Hakuba Mountain Lodge was exceptionally beautiful.

This was my first time staying at a mountain lodge. Since it was a mountain lodge, I wasn’t expecting much in terms of food or accommodations, but the food was delicious—I could even get seconds of rice and miso soup—which really helped me regain my strength. I can’t begin to imagine how much effort goes on behind the scenes to maintain the lodging and services in such a harsh environment, but I’m truly impressed. It’s a place I’d love to stay at again.

I had a very comfortable stay at the mountain lodge. Once I’ve built up my stamina, I’d like to come back to Mt. Hakuba and stay at the Hakuba Mountain Lodge again.

When I was having trouble with my sole coming loose, a staff member who overheard me kindly stepped in to help. I’m grateful to the on-site patrol officer for their assistance. I also received help from a woman at the front desk who had just finished her shift, and was able to take a commemorative photo that will be a treasured keepsake. Thank you very much.
