Since it’s a mountain lodge, the menu is limited, but the curry for dinner was even more delicious than I expected. I had three helpings. There weren’t many guests, so it was nice that two of us could share a private room. They started requiring a reservation deposit this year, but I feel that 3,000 yen is too much. I wish they’d at least lower it to around 1,000 yen. When the fee is high, it makes it harder to cancel, and I think there will be climbers who push themselves even in bad weather. (I don’t know if that was the reason, but in fact, the day before, there was a mountain accident involving climbers who were presumably planning to stay at the lodge on the Great Snowfield due to bad weather.) Also, due to the reservation deposit system, I find it difficult to make group reservations, whether for private rooms or shared rooms. (Even though the deposit can be carried over in case of a cancellation, there’s no guarantee that the same group—with the same number of people—will be able to visit next time.) I hope they’ll improve the reservation system.

Since we visited on a weekday during a break in the rainy season, there weren’t many guests—including us—so we had plenty of space to do whatever we wanted. Everything was comfortable. We also got to hear from a staff member about the strong man who carried the giant boulder used for the directional sign at the summit, which helped expand our knowledge of the mountain. If I had to nitpick, the only downside was that the portion of rice in the bento lunch they prepared for us was a bit small for a big eater like me (lol).

The customer service was truly wonderful. I know there are all kinds of people—from experienced hikers to total newbies who aren’t used to the mountains—and with so many visitors from mainland China these days, I imagine it must be tough, but please keep up the great work. I guess it’s because you’re not yet fully open, but the dinner menu seemed a bit smaller than what was featured in the magazine (lol). I was so happy to meet the legendary Mr. Nakagawa from Karamatsu Sanso—he’s always so kind! Thank you for your hospitality.

This was my first time staying at Hakuba Sanso. I had booked a semi-private room, but since there were only a few of us, they kindly provided us with a 6-tatami-mat room, which I really appreciated. Thanks to the staff’s warm hospitality, I had a very comfortable stay. I hope to stay there again someday.

We arrived late, but the staff was courteous and helpful without making us feel uncomfortable. We were not able to purchase items at the store due to the delay in helicopter transportation, but we were able to make a layaway and have the items delivered to the headquarters. We are very glad that we came at this time of the year instead of the busy season because the toilets, which were under construction last year, were flushed and clean, and because there were few guests during the lingering snow season, we were able to change to a private room. We would like to visit Yukikura-dake next year, so we will be back to take care of you again.

I have used this course three times in 2023, 2024, and 2026, all during the remaining snow season. The manager and all the staff are very kind and we are always happy to use the lodge! I am sure that the number of climbers will increase in the summer, but I sincerely wish everyone good health and safety.

We stayed on 5/30/2026. Once we had taken the wrong reservation and you contacted us by phone to express your concern. Thank you very much for your help in adjusting the reservation. Thanks to your help, we were able to stay at the lodge during the lingering snow season, and we were able to summit Mount Hakuba twice, once on the first day and again on the second day. As expected of a mountain lodge with a long history, it is equipped with various features and was very comfortable. Here are some notes on other features of the lodge. It takes about 20 minutes to get up to the village lodge from Daisetsuekei. It takes about 20 minutes from the lodge to the summit. It is better to have your reservation number (YY...) when you check in. It is better to have your reservation number (YY...) when you check in. The signal condition in the room on the first floor was as follows SOFTBANK: -, DOCOMO: 1, AU/Rakuten: - The signal conditions in the room on the 2nd floor, on the Daisetsuken side, were as follows SOFTBANK: 1~2 lines, DOCOMO: 3 lines, AU/Rakuten: - There was a room with a gas burner in the room, but it was cold. There was a warm room at the entrance of the dining room where we could kill time. The bedding was thin and made my back hurt (but that's a bonus!). Electricity outlets are usually available for 1h/100yen, 30min/100yen during peak season. There is an announcement at meal times. The bathroom was very clean and smelled like a new building. I could brush my teeth in the washroom. Water supply was free of charge. There was a very large drying room. There was a changing room.
