I was surprised at how clean the restrooms were. The rooms were cozy and comfortable to use. The changing rooms were also clean, spacious, and easy to use, and the dining hall was spacious and comfortable. Check-in was very smooth since they used QR code scanning. The young staff members were friendly and really lifted my spirits. I thought the dining hall was colder than I expected, and it was inconvenient that the beer vending machine wouldn’t accept new bills. It was a comfortable stay, so I’d like to stay there again.

The front desk was crowded because there were so many guests, but the staff there were very helpful. I also appreciated being able to pay via QR code. It was especially helpful that I could bring my backpack into the room. The meals were also very good.

The Sky Restaurant had a great location. The dinner and the damp futons were a letdown.

The room itself was fine, but it felt a bit damp—maybe because it was the rainy season. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming, which made me feel really good. The food was delicious.

Due to bad weather, I ended up staying for consecutive nights. Since my dinner voucher said “consecutive,” I expected a different menu from the previous day, but I was disappointed to find it was the same. Since it’s a mountain lodge, I understand it might be difficult to change the menu for guests staying multiple nights. However, since Hakuba Sanso has a fine restaurant, I wish they had at least offered a dinner menu there—at a price comparable to the restaurant’s dinner—even if it was just for dinner. I would have been happy with something like curry rice or a Shinshu rice bowl.
