For a mountain hut located so high up, the dinner was quite a feast. I was surprised by how many ingredients were in the pork miso soup.

I stayed in a large room. It was clean, spacious, and I was able to relax. If I had to nitpick, I wish there were a self-catering kitchen on the Building 1 side.

I stayed in a special room. The package included breakfast on the terrace, but I thought it would have been even better if I could have chosen what to eat. Also, since the lounge was directly below my room, it was a shame that I could hear a group watching TV and talking loudly starting before 4:00 a.m. As for the room itself, I was grateful that the bathroom and other areas were clean. Although the front desk staff made a mistake, they treated it as if it were my fault, so I rated the customer service as “unsatisfactory.”

This was my first time staying at a mountain lodge, and it completely changed my perception of them. The dinner side dishes were well-balanced, and we could have as many refills of miso soup and rice as we wanted. The miso soup was delicious. There was a line at the dining hall, but there were plenty of staff members, so service ran smoothly. The rooms were semi-private, so I was able to relax. I suppose the thin futons are typical of mountain huts, but since my back was aching, I think it’s best to bring something to help with that. All the staff members were cheerful and provided attentive service. When I went to the restaurant around 11:30, it was still empty, so I was able to get a seat by the window. I was surprised to find four kinds of desserts—including apple pie and other cakes—plus ice cream. I opted for a bento box for breakfast, but as I expected, it was cold—I’d be happy if they offered a warm option. The restrooms were Western-style, plentiful, and clean. This is a mountain lodge I’d love to visit again.

It was a three-day weekend, so the only room we could book was a large one, but there were only six people staying in that room. I would have liked to make better use of the spacious area, but since everyone strictly adhered to the seat numbers assigned to them at the start, we ended up sleeping crammed together with strangers. There was snoring, too, so I barely got any sleep. It felt kind of frustrating, given that there was plenty of empty space. I wonder if people would have found it easier to move around if there had been a sign saying it was okay to change spots when space was available. On the way down the mountain, I was completely exhausted from lack of sleep.

I was impressed by how clean the bathroom and sink area were. As for the room, the air on the third floor felt stuffy and made it hard to breathe.

The restrooms were very clean. Free water. The view of Mt. Tsurugi was spectacular. The story told by the founder’s great-grandchild was interesting. Next time, I’d like to have a bento for breakfast and watch the sunrise from the summit.
