    The first time I used the restroom, the staff member who showed me where it was was very polite. The room was old but clean, and the food was pretty tasty. It was the kind of Japanese side dishes that appeal to connoisseurs, and while I enjoyed it, the foreign guests at my table didn’t seem to like it very much.

    The staff were wonderful, and it was a fantastic mountain lodge overall. Although this isn’t really the lodge’s fault, if I had to point out one area for improvement, it would be that the cell phone reception was so poor that I couldn’t use my phone at all. I had both a Docomo and a Rakuten phone, but I couldn’t use either of them inside or outside the lodge.

    It was so clean and comfortable, you’d never guess it was the oldest mountain lodge! The only meal that was self-serve was dinner—just rice and miso soup—and if you ended up sharing a table with inconsiderate people, the miso soup would be practically devoid of any ingredients. It’s reassuring that they serve you breakfast, but dinner is a bit of a hit-or-miss, which I found disappointing. Other than that, everything was great!
