Since the rooms were divided by group, it was great that I could sleep without worrying about my neighbors. The service was courteous, and the food was delicious. The baths go without saying—it was a great experience you can only have here. The hot water starting at 8:00 PM was the best. If I had to nitpick, I wish the gift shop would have sold beer and other alcoholic beverages a little later into the evening.

In the outdoor rest area, I’d be happy if there were laundry right in front of me and I could secure a spot in the drying room. I’d like to take a break while enjoying the view outside.

Because Yari Onsen Hut is built and taken down every year to withstand winter snow and avalanches, adding a drying room is difficult. Above all, the hot springs♨️ were the best. The scenery and the starry sky were absolutely beautiful. I was so reluctant to head back down the mountain.

The mountain lodge’s standard amenities (lodging and meals) were nothing special—neither good nor bad—which feels like a bit of a waste, especially since the quality of the hot spring water is absolutely top-notch. For example, considering that the meals at Tengu Sanso, where I stayed the next day, were so good I genuinely thought, “This is delicious!”—there’s clearly room for improvement here. It feels like everything falls just short—and (with high hopes) I get the sense they could do even better. The deposit system is great. It’s become much easier to use. However, it was a bit of a hassle when I was told at check-in that I needed my reservation number or QR code—they wouldn’t accept my name alone. Having just climbed up, out of breath, and then being asked to fiddle with my smartphone was more stressful than I could have imagined. There’s no logical reason why I should have to do that myself. I’m deducting one point from the customer service score for this.

We arrived a bit early, around 10:00 a.m., but since it was raining, the staff kindly let us check in early. Thanks to that, we were able to relax and fully enjoy the hot springs, which really refreshed us. The baths had a spacious, open feel and were very pleasant. Both dinner and breakfast were of remarkably high quality for a mountain lodge, and I was thoroughly satisfied. Also, the beef bowl bento was delicious and gave me the energy I needed for the next day’s hike!

The staff were very friendly, and the accommodations were excellent, but I hope they can improve the toilet flushing system to reduce the odor—after all, the mountain lodge is located in an area with no shortage of water. I believe that if they address this issue, it would be perfect.

Needless to say, the hot springs were wonderful. The meals were also excellent. It would be even better if there were a drying room (hanging clothes outside doesn’t really help much when the weather is bad).
