I stayed in a 4.5-tatami-mat private room at Goryu Mountain Lodge. I was blown away by how clean the room was! It was fully equipped with power outlets, USB-A ports, and USB-C charging ports. The bathroom even had a Washlet—it really had everything you could ask for. It was one of the best mountain huts I’ve ever stayed in.

I stayed there in a tent. The staff at the lodge were very kind. When I arrived, everything was blanketed in snow, and it poured heavily that night, but the next morning was sunny, and the view was absolutely stunning. If I had one suggestion for improvement, it would be to provide free water for both lodge guests and tent campers. I understand that water is a precious resource, but since lodge guests pay over 10,000 yen and tent campers pay 3,000 yen after carrying heavy gear all the way, my personal opinion as a guest is that they should offer up to 500 ml for free.

The curry rice and miso soup for dinner really hit the spot after a long day. It was great to be able to charge my devices in the Japanese-style room—they had both USB and Type-C ports. The restroom was so clean—it even had a Washlet—that it was hard to believe I was in a mountain cabin.

The private room fee was a bit too high, but the food was delicious and I was very satisfied with the service.

I think the staff are very attuned to guests’ needs and go out of their way to be considerate. We often make eye contact. I sensed a willingness from some staff members to try to understand what guests are looking for. Also, the restrooms and the second floor are clean, and the Washlet is fantastic. I’ve never seen a place like this before. The only downside is that the doors are noisy when they close. On the other hand, they’re strict about rules—including unannounced ones—and if campers use the restrooms inside, they’ll “extort 11,000 yen without question.” Also, since there are no slippers, I wanted to watch the sunset and pick up a bento, but there were guests at the front desk, and I couldn’t get them without slippers. I had to wait in a line for slippers. Reluctantly, I left my hiking boots at the slipper rack, but when I returned, they were gone—they’d been moved inside the closed office. Thinking they’d been stolen, I was told to leave immediately without any discussion, and was warned, “Don’t let others follow your example!” It really annoyed me, especially since other staff members came over to stare at me, asking, “Who did this?” Having worked in the hotel industry for a long time, “customer first” is deeply ingrained in me, so please find a better way to handle situations where you tend to be a bit overbearing. The curry is a local specialty and delicious, but if you served the leftover curry sauce on the plate with either a piece of deep-fried tofu from the miso soup or a small piece of bread, I think it would almost eliminate the need for dishwashing water. That’s what I do at home, too. While many places serve bad beer from their taps, yours was genuinely delicious. Thank you.

This was my first time staying at Goryu Sanso. I thought the restroom was clean and wonderful—there wasn’t a trace of that unpleasant smell you usually get in mountain huts. However, the man in the next room was snoring so loudly that we couldn’t sleep at all, so we had no choice but to escape to the drying room together. We really had some bad luck 😭

The lodge was filled with the smiling faces of the staff, and I had a wonderful time from check-in to meals and the gift shop. 😊 The inside of the lodge was very clean, and the flush toilets were comfortable. The only thing that bothered me a bit was that the futons were a little small, making it difficult to roll over. Also, since so many people were resting in the same space, it felt a bit stuffy at night. Even so, thanks to the staff’s warm hospitality and the clean, well-maintained lodge, I had a very pleasant stay.

Perhaps because it was renovated this year, the interior and restrooms were the cleanest and most well-maintained of any mountain hut I’ve stayed in so far. I stayed in a private room; the lighting was lovely, and I could barely hear any outside noise, making for a very comfortable stay. The famous curry was delicious, too. Check-out wasn’t until 7:30 a.m., so I was able to watch the sunrise from the summit, come back, and then leisurely enjoy my bento lunch. I was really grateful that they even collected the bento wrappers for me. The staff at the lodge were friendly and welcoming—great service! I’d love to stay there again!

The renovated Goryu Mountain Lodge—with innovative amenities you wouldn’t expect from a mountain lodge, such as cashless payments, charging stations, vending machines, and clean restrooms—along with the classic curry dinner and the staff’s hospitality—was absolutely fantastic! 😀

The restroom was clean. The staff were very friendly. I’d love to stay there again.
