I caught the second-to-last ride on the Tsugaike Ropeway and headed to the hut. Even though I’d contacted them in advance, I was worried they might be upset about my late check-in, but they welcomed me warmly and even took the time to discuss the next morning’s weather with me. The facility was clean. The futons were fluffy. We had whitefish for dinner, which was delicious. I wished I could have had seconds of the pickled nozawana. Breakfast was delicious, too. The staff were all kind and gentle, and their attentive service made me feel very comfortable. Thank you very much.

The food was absolutely delicious, and it felt more like staying at a hotel than a mountain lodge. I stayed here the night before heading to Hakuba Sanso. I was really happy that they let me leave my luggage there.

We stayed here the night before our climb up Mt. Hakuba. My wife and I shared a 4-person dorm room with another pair of men. There were electrical outlets, so it was convenient to charge our cell phones in the room. The bath isn’t very spacious, so I imagine it might get crowded during peak season, depending on the timing. My wife mentioned that it took a while to dry her hair with the hair dryer. Dinner offers a wide variety of dishes, and you can have seconds of rice, so you’ll definitely leave feeling full. I’d recommend this place to anyone who wants to leave Tsugaike early in the morning.
