When I arrived, the staff at the front desk welcomed me warmly, which put me at ease. I stayed in a private room for two. The hallway was a bit chilly, but the room itself was warm even at night—I could comfortably stay in just a T-shirt. Although the room only had an internal lock and I could hear some noise from the next room, it was still comfortable. The meals were delicious, and I appreciated being able to choose the portion size. The Sky Plaza Restaurant accepts card payments, but only contactless payments are available. It was also great that there were plenty of outdoor sandals available! The thick-soled sandals were perfect for walking, and I used them several times. I had a very comfortable stay and was completely satisfied with my two-day stay. I’d love to stay here again. Thank you to all the staff members.

The food and the terrace were both fantastic. I noticed a slight musty smell in the room, but it was warm—which was absolutely wonderful at an elevation of 3,000 meters. I was truly impressed—it really lived up to its reputation as Hakuba Sanso. I’ll be back. I look forward to staying with you again then.

A very comfortable mountain lodge, and the gift shop offers a wide selection of souvenirs.

Hakuba Sanso, Japan’s largest mountain lodge, really is great. The rooms are clean, and since there are so many of them, it doesn’t feel crowded even with a large group. The water is drinkable, the food is delicious—it’s a great mountain lodge. I ordered a bento for breakfast, and it was just what I needed to fuel my hike.

I had reserved a semi-private room, but when I checked at the front desk on the day of my stay, I found that a 2-tatami-mat private room had become available due to a cancellation, so I paid the difference to switch to that room. It was actually more spacious than the photos on the website suggested, and it was clean and roomy enough for two people. Dinner was lavish, and since we could have unlimited refills of rice and pork miso soup, the portion sizes were very satisfying. The breakfast bento was delicious, too. The Wi-Fi was down that day due to a thunderstorm, but it seems to be available normally. There were plenty of dining options, rest areas, and gift shops, so we were able to relax and take it easy. The mascot, Raizō, was so cute that I ended up buying a T-shirt.

There was space on both sides of my futon, so I was able to sleep soundly. I stayed for several nights in a row. The main dish for dinner was different each night—they didn’t just serve the same thing as the day before. I had braced myself for eating exactly the same thing as the day before, but since it was different, I really enjoyed it. If only I could have taken a shower, it would have been perfect. I wish there were a coin-operated shower—even a basic one would be fine.

Seeing the young staff running the mountain lodge, I was impressed by how their youth allowed them to handle such a large number of guests. …However, if I may say one thing about the customer service, even though it’s a mountain lodge, it’s still a place to stay, and even though our stay was brief, I would have liked to see a bit more warmth in their attitude and conversation.

Beef stew is delicious. The weather wasn't great, but... the food really saved the day. The sunrise over Mt. Hakuba was beautiful.

This was my second visit, and the mountain lodge was just as wonderful as ever. I also had a great time at Sky Plaza. My only regret is that I ended up having the same cake for lunch and again after the beef stew 😅 The restrooms at the mountain lodge are clean and fantastic. I’ll definitely be back. Thank you very much.

Amid the stormy weather, we finally made it to the Mt. Hakuba Mountain Lodge. The warmth of the stove and the kind hospitality of the staff were truly comforting. I was also surprised to find that we could have unlimited refills of rice and miso soup. The drying room was a big help, too. Thank you for the wonderful experience. I’d love to go back.
