Since the summit of Mount Goryu had recently been renovated, it was clean and comfortable. The restrooms were equipped with Washlet bidets and felt very clean—I really liked that. It’s helpful that the lodge offers Wi-Fi, but it didn’t work in the rooms, so I’d appreciate it if you could improve this.

We stayed in a tent, and the tent toilet was quite an experience.

It was a very nice, clean, and comfortable place to stay. I was surprised to find that there was electricity. The dinner was their famous curry, but I would have liked to try some of their other dishes as well.

I was a little surprised when they suddenly asked for a QR code at check-in! I thought, “Was that mentioned when I made the reservation?” Especially since we’re up in the mountains where cell service is spotty. Is there a problem if I just check in with my name like usual? I mean, I was able to book it online. Also—and this is just a vague feeling I have—back in the day, mountain huts had this vibe of “Wow, you actually made it all the way out here,” but lately I get the sense that the atmosphere is more like, “Be grateful you have a roof over your head and meals served to you in a place like this.” Of course, I’m truly grateful! But when they make that sentiment so obvious, it kind of kills the mood. The Washlet was really great. Actually, I think it probably helps conserve water and save on toilet paper, doesn’t it?

I stayed there in early September. Staying overnight allowed me to enjoy a relaxing time at the summit. Also, after I came down the mountain, I realized I had left something behind. When I contacted them, they were very kind and helpful, and they even sent my forgotten item to me. It’s a mountain lodge I’d love to visit again.

Stayed at Goryu-dake Mountain Lodge in a tent. Since reservations are made online, check-in was smooth upon arrival. I don’t expect a mountain lodge to be like a hotel, so just being able to stay there earns it my highest rating. As for the tent site, the ground was well-leveled overall, and since the pitching areas were clearly marked off, I had no trouble setting up a tent that was about two-person size. The ground had a very slight slope overall, so my air mattress tended to slide around; I felt that a closed-cell foam mat would have been more comfortable for sleeping.

First, the cashless payment system and the digitized guest registration process. The jet stove right by the entrance. And the cleanliness of the flush toilets—it was all very comfortable. What I felt was lacking: 1: Variety of drinks and food (I would have appreciated non-alcoholic beverages, chocolate, and sweet pastries) 2: A café menu and books (so guests can enjoy themselves even when stuck due to bad weather, etc.)
