I really liked that the restrooms were clean. I wish the curry and sausages served for dinner had been a little warmer. Someone at our table mentioned that the curry they got as a second helping had gone cold, so I wondered if it was just part of the system to serve them cold from the start—which was a bit disappointing.

My husband and I were well taken care of. It was great to see how clean everything was. The staff were also very helpful.

Since payment for the cabin reservation was made online in advance, check-in on the day of our stay went smoothly. The cabin was clean and well-maintained overall, and the restrooms, in particular, had been renovated and were brand-new and very clean. The self-catering kitchen is located in the room next to the drying room, and it was warm and very comfortable. I’m grateful for the wonderful time we had there, and I’d definitely like to stay at this mountain cabin again.

The vending machines only sell bottled water—it would be nice if they had tea, too. You can buy three inari sushi and some nozawana at the snack bar for 500 yen! Dinner consists of curry topped with sausage, miso soup, and stewed apples; you can get seconds of the curry and miso soup. The website shows photos of the lunch bento with salmon and shrimp tempura, but sometimes the contents vary. Breakfast is served from 5:00 to 7:00 AM, and you can eat whenever you like, which is a great idea because it lets you plan your day around your schedule. The water pressure at the restroom sink is a bit low, so the sink gets dirty quickly, but it’s rare to find such a clean restroom in that area. There are no duvet or pillow covers—I wonder if you can still buy them now? I stayed in a private room this time and found it very comfortable. The Wi-Fi works well near the entrance.

Reservation for a tent stay at Goryu Mountain Lodge. The weather on the reservation date (hiking day) was bad, so I had to postpone the reservation a few times, but there were no issues, which was a relief. Check-in was smooth as well; since I had filled out the necessary information in advance, I didn’t have to fill out any forms on the spot, which I appreciated. I also think the option to pay in advance is great because it saves the hassle of paying in cash on the day of the stay.

The front desk staff was rude and ignored my questions, which was unpleasant. Dinner was cold, and even when I asked for a refill, it was still cold. The breakfast bento didn’t match the photo. There were fewer side dishes (the main dish, fried shrimp, was missing), and there were no sweets on the side, which was very disappointing. Overall, my satisfaction level is low given the high room rate. If it were cheaper, I might accept it as “just the way it is,” but I can’t say it’s worth the price. The restrooms and washrooms were very clean, which was a definite plus. I’d like to stay here again, so I hope they’ve made some improvements by then.

I stayed here after hiking the Happo Kiretto Ridge. Since there were three of us, we paid a little extra to stay in a private room. Perhaps because it had been raining for a while, the lodge seemed to be quite full—I think it was nearly at capacity. Choosing a private room was definitely the right decision. Since the place was packed, we were able to talk and relax in the privacy of our room. It was also very convenient that the room had electrical outlets and USB charging ports. The curry for dinner was a bit spicy, but it came with sausages and was delicious. Breakfast had a traditional Japanese feel to it; it was warm and much appreciated. I ordered a bento box for lunch—it had salmon and vinegared rice—and it was delicious even when cold.

Curry is delicious, but in terms of nutritional balance, it's completely lacking in both protein and vegetables.

The package included one night’s stay with dinner and a breakfast bento box. The bento—which featured chirashi sushi and salt-grilled salmon—was delicious and very easy to eat; it also came in handy as a snack during breaks on the way down the mountain. The curry and miso soup for dinner were also delicious. I appreciated that they accepted credit cards and transit IC cards, and that Wi-Fi was available. However, the room was cold at night, and I had trouble falling asleep. In the morning, a powerful fan heater was set up in the hallway, which made it warm, so it would have been nice if they could have kept it running until lights-out at night. Or perhaps if there had been a blanket… Whether you go around from Happo Pond or climb up from the Tōmi Ridge, it’s a fairly challenging hike, but knowing this mountain hut is there gives me peace of mind, so I’ll definitely visit Mt. Goryū again.
