The breakfast bento was delicious and really gave me a boost. I really liked the free boiled water and the free Wi-Fi (which even non-guests can use). It’s a shame there weren’t quite enough outlets for charging smartphones.

I stayed there in a tent. On September 6, during a storm on the ridgeline, I got soaked by the rain and wind. When I tried to go inside the facility, I was turned away because “it’s for overnight guests only,” so I started my descent from Oike Mountain Lodge toward Tsugaike Highlands while shivering from the cold. While I realize that it’s the responsibility of individual hikers to be better prepared for the rain, I felt a deep sense of sadness realizing that these “mountain huts” have become commercial entities, going beyond their original purpose. (I was told I could use the area under the roof to pack up my tent, but the space was extremely small, and with the strong wind, I couldn’t shelter from the rain and wind there.)

It was my first time in the Northern Alps and my first time staying at a mountain hut. Although it’s an old mountain hut, it was spotlessly clean, and I had a very pleasant stay. I’m looking forward to staying there again.

The hamburger steak for dinner was really delicious. Both the room and the lounge/dining area were clean, and the view from the window was great. My only regret was that there was no heating in the drying room, so I couldn’t dry my clothes. My husband, who stayed here last year during rainy weather, said it was the same then, so I wish they would at least turn on the heat so we could dry our clothes when it rains.

As for heating in the drying room, being at high altitude limits what we can do with power and fuel, so we're not always able to run it the same way throughout the season. I’m always grateful that there’s a mountain lodge here. I enjoyed a leisurely time at Hakuba Oike, where the grass is beginning to turn red and the scenery is gradually shifting to that of autumn. I was also grateful that I could use Wi-Fi.

I stayed here the night before climbing Mt. Hakuba. Perhaps because it was a weekday and due to the weather, there were few guests; the room, which sleeps six, was occupied by only four people, so it felt spacious. There’s also a changing room. Cold and hot water are available in the dining hall. Dinner was delicious, too. I was happy they provided Amino Vital. I thought it would be nice if the gift shop carried some gel drinks. I arrived early and was able to relax and take my time.

We stayed in a tent. The restrooms were clean and comfortable (considering it was a mountain lodge). Since the weather was bad, there were few other tents, so we had plenty of space. Also, even though it was before check-in time, they let us set up our tent before it started raining and were very accommodating given the circumstances, which was a huge help.
