Even though our arrival was later than scheduled, they handled it without a single look of displeasure. They did not blame us at all for our poor workmanship in filling out the forms. We were given a private room even though we were sharing a room, probably because of the time of year, and we were able to spend a very comfortable time.

As expected, the first thing that struck me when I entered the mountain lodge was just how clean it was. It was sparkling. This is by far the most comfortable mountain lodge I’ve ever stayed in, especially when it comes to the restrooms. The meal service was efficient, smooth, and delicious. The talk about Hakuba-kan’s history during the 120th-anniversary celebration at the restaurant really helped me understand the feelings of those who love Hakuba. It was a wonderful mountain lodge, just as I’d hoped.

This is my fifth stay at Hakuba Sanso. Although it’s located right below the summit of Mt. Hakuba, I think its service is outstanding—a model for other mountain huts. This time, due to a linear precipitation zone that hit Toyama Prefecture, I was forced to stay put for two days. However, the staff kindly contacted the next mountain lodge I had planned to stay at—which I had to cancel—and, perhaps because there were few guests, I was able to have an 8-tatami-mat Japanese-style room all to myself. Given my age, I suspect this will be my last climb of Mt. Hakuba, but I’ve stayed here five times since my first visit in my twenties. I am endlessly grateful for the support this lodge has provided as a valued partner in my mountaineering life. I sincerely hope you will continue to run this mountain lodge for many years to come.

It was truly amazing—I had no idea a mountain resort could be so well-equipped. It’s incredible to have restrooms that don’t smell bad, and the private rooms made for a very comfortable night’s sleep. Although I think the meals could use some improvement, overall, I’m really grateful for such excellent facilities up here in the mountains.

Since it’s Japan’s largest mountain hut, many hikers stay there, but I was pleased to see that the service ran smoothly. The shared dormitory-style rooms felt smaller than those at other mountain huts. (Though not as small as they used to be.) I was surprised and delighted to find that the restrooms had heated toilet seats.

This was my third visit to Mt. Hakuba, but my first time to stay there, only passing in front of the hut and using the nice cafeteria (not open yet this time). I had booked a shared room, but they let me use it like a private room in the winter wing? I was very thankful that they let me use the room like a private room. The view of Tsurugidake and Asahidake from the window was wonderful! The bathroom was so clean that I couldn't believe it was a mountain lodge. The bathroom was so clean that it was hard to believe that it was a mountain lodge. I had a second helping, though. The view from the front of the hut was magnificent and relaxing, and I was convinced that it is a popular hut. Thank you for opening your hut during the remaining snow season! I would like to use it again for skiing.

Hakuba many times, you chose to stay at Hakuba Sanso during the early season shortly after opening. Thank you also for your kind comments regarding the views of Mt. Tsurugi and Mt. In particular, hearing that the restroom facilities felt “surprisingly clean for a mountain hut” is very encouraging for all of our staff, who worked hard on last year’s renovation project to improve guest comfort. During the spring snow season, meals are prepared under limited water supply and transportation conditions, but your comments will help us continue improving our operations and services.
