This was my fourth time staying at a mountain hut. I really appreciated being able to wash my hands normally—and that liquid soap was provided. The smell in the restroom was a bit bothersome, but it was clean. I also really appreciated that there were private changing rooms inside the restroom (I think there were two for women, and they had locks). Both dinner and breakfast were delicious. I brought plenty of water with me, so I didn’t use the water provided, but drinking water and hot water were available for free, and everyone was refilling their kettles and bottles. For the packed lunch, the options were Japanese-style or a set of bread and juice; I chose the bread. Since I was only descending to Tsugaike, I probably didn’t need it. The staff seemed very busy but were incredibly kind. My room was on the second floor, so carrying my heavy backpack up was a struggle. I suppose if you arrive early, you’d get a room on the lower floor. The trail from Tsugaike was very challenging, but once I got home, I found myself wanting to try it again. When I do, I’ll be counting on your hospitality once more.

It would be nice to have a drying room. It's great that water and hot water are free.

I’m very satisfied with my wonderful stay at this mountain lodge, set in a breathtaking location on the shores of Hakuba Oike. The staff were efficient and friendly; even though they seemed busy with such a small team, they responded politely to all my questions and requests. The rooms and common areas were very comfortable. Although I was a bit nervous about sharing a room for the first time, I was able to sleep soundly. Breakfast and dinner were so substantial that it was hard to believe we were deep in the mountains—I was very satisfied. The apple juice was delicious. If I have the chance, I’d love to stay here again.

Although we started our hike from Tsugaike, we got very tired on the large rocky section, so we decided to head down to Renge Onsen instead. I’m very grateful that you answered our questions about bus schedules and taxis—which we didn’t know about since it was such short notice—with such sincerity. I safely soaked in the hot springs at Renge Onsen, boarded the only bus available, and from there took the Shinkansen from Itoigawa Station to head home. Even though it was a weekday, the bus was quite full, though there seemed to be a few empty seats left. Thank you very much for your help. This will surely become a fond memory. I’m hoping to visit the Shorenge area next time.

On this mountain trip, we stayed at three places—here, Hakuba Sanso, and Yari Onsen Cabin—but it was disappointing that the room was overwhelmingly small (2 tatami mats for three people). In contrast, at Hakuba Sanso, five of us shared an 8-tatami-mat room, and at Yari Onsen Cabin, each person had at least one tatami mat. Also, the drying room’s heater wasn’t running, so our sweat-soaked clothes didn’t dry at all. At Hakuba Sanso, the heater in the drying room was on, and our clothes dried well. The smell in the restroom was also bothersome. Even though the room rate at Hakuba Sanso is 200 yen cheaper, Hakuba Oike Sanso is far inferior in terms of comfort. Since your rates have gone up compared to before, please make an effort to at least ensure at least one tatami mat of space per person or renovate the restrooms. Thank you for your attention.

Maybe because the place was fully booked, I had to leave my luggage in the hallway and rummage through my backpack, which made it hard to pass by others and required me to be careful. It would probably be difficult to make the hallway wider, but since there’s a shelf in the room, I’d like to make effective use of it. The hot fish for breakfast was delicious. I’d like to see some ingredients in the miso soup and other soups. I understand the role of mountain huts, but even though the price is the same at 16,000 yen, the meals and sleeping conditions vary from hut to hut, so I question why the rates are all the same.
