It was my first time in Hakuba, and it turned out to be a memorable mountain climb. The food was delicious, and I really appreciated being able to use the hot water and tea for free, which allowed me to relax and take my time. The starry night sky was so beautiful it seemed as if the stars might fall—I was truly moved. The only downside was my roommate. Their snoring was so loud that I didn’t get a single wink of sleep—I was just unlucky. The restrooms were surprisingly clean and easy to use. I’d definitely like to stay here again.

We stayed at the Hakuba Oike Mountain Lodge on October 5 and the Hakuba Mountain Lodge on October 6—thank you very much for your hospitality during our two-night stay. It was a two-person hike with a friend, but our abilities were insufficient, and as a result, it took us twice as long as the standard course time. Consequently, the route from the Tsugaike Visitor Center to the Hakuba Oike Mountain Lodge on October 5 took us 7 hours, and we didn’t arrive until 6:30 p.m. We are truly sorry for causing concern and inconvenience to the staff at the lodge. That night, thanks to the guidance we received from the lodge staff, we were able to arrive at Hakuba Mountain Lodge around 3:00 PM the following day. We had planned to stay one more night at the Hakuba Oike Mountain Lodge on October 7, but since the descent from the Hakuba Mountain Lodge went relatively smoothly and we arrived at the Oike Mountain Lodge at 12:00 PM, we canceled our reservation and headed for Renge Onsen at 12:30 PM. The course was rated at 2 hours and 40 minutes, but it took us 5 hours, and we arrived at Renge Onsen Lodge at 5:30 p.m. Although it was getting dark, I am glad we arrived safely without any accidents. The staff at the lodge were very kind and allowed us to take a bath for the first time in three days. Afterward, we took a taxi to Tsugaike, departed around 10:00 p.m., and were able to return to Tokyo at 3:00 a.m. the following morning. Thank you very much. I keenly felt my lack of stamina and regret that my preparation was insufficient. Thank you.

I really appreciated being able to get water and hot water for free.

The room was spotlessly clean and very comfortable. Even though we arrived late, they prepared dinner for us right away, which we really appreciated. Also, it was raining, so our raincoats and towels were soaking wet, but the drying room came in very handy. Breakfast was served starting at 5:00 a.m., but I was also able to order a breakfast bento box, which was a big help. It was even better than I expected.

It was a shame that the beer was sold out.

The staff at the cabin were very helpful, and we had a pleasant stay without any issues. The restrooms at the campground are shared with day-trippers and use the type where you dispose of toilet paper in a trash can. I think it would be greatly appreciated if the day-trippers could clear out the used toilet paper once during a quieter time of day, so that campers can use the facilities comfortably. We would appreciate it if you could consider this suggestion.

I had ordered two bento boxes for the next day. When I opened them, I was surprised to find that one appeared to be leftover rice from the previous night’s dinner—the color had even faded. The rice around the edges of the container was especially hard. The side dishes, particularly the fried chicken, were delicious. Since they charge 1,500 yen, I wish they had been a little more careful.

Since I wanted to leave early in the morning, I ordered a breakfast bento box. It included fried chicken, dashimaki tamago, and salt-grilled salmon—I was very satisfied. I enjoyed it for lunch. Thank you very much.

One of the staff members called out to me from across the room, saying, “Welcome! You must be exhausted!” It made me so happy it brought tears to my eyes. That was just the beginning—the atmosphere at the mountain lodge was so wonderful that the hikers naturally fell into a friendly, relaxed vibe. It was a truly wonderful experience. The curry for dinner was a little too spicy for me, so I ended up leaving some. I’m sorry.
