It was a shared room with a tatami floor, but the room was new and comfortable—I’m glad I chose it. I was surprised at how clean the restroom was. Dinner was a stylish curry dish. The breakfast bento was delicious, too. Thank you very much.

I love the Ushiro-Tateyama range and stay here every year. I’m amazed by the renovations. I was surprised to see power outlets in every room, but having both Type-A and Type-C USB charging ports is incredible. The walls have been re-paneled, giving the place a much brighter feel. Also, the futon set’s mattress pad has been replaced with a regular mattress, and my wife said it has just the right firmness. Needless to say, the Washlet is the best. I wish every mountain hut had one. I’m sure every through-hiker hopes for this. It’s also great that the sliding door to the restroom now closes gently. I know I’m praising it a bit too much, but I’m just a hiker—not someone involved with the mountain hut.

I stayed here during my traverse of the Utsuri-dake Range from Hakuba to Kashimayari (with tent camping). The campground was beautifully maintained, which was great. I especially appreciated that they provided electrical outlets for guests. Not many mountain huts offer this kind of service, so I really hope they continue to do so.

I arrived in the rain. The dryer could dry shoe insoles, but not the shoes themselves. It was a shame that the dryer stopped running at the designated time and didn’t continue drying afterward. The room was a shared dorm, but since there weren’t many people, I was able to relax. The restrooms were also quite clean. It was also possible to switch breakfast to a boxed meal. I was able to take it easy until checkout at 7:30 a.m. I’d like to stay there again.

From StaffIt sounds like quite a journey arriving in the rain. As for the drying machine, our electricity comes from our own generator, which we shut down after lights-out, so the machine isn't available past that point. This is simply part of running a mountain hut on a limited power supply, and we hope you can understand. We're glad the shared room still felt spacious and relaxing since it wasn't crowded, and that you enjoyed the clean toilets, the option to switch to a boxed breakfast, and the leisurely 7:30 checkout. Mount Goryu—I’ve always dreamed of visiting it. The scenery, the mountain hut, and the staff’s hospitality were all top-notch. The rooms and restrooms were incredibly clean—just like a hotel. I definitely want to go back!

The Washlet and free Wi-Fi are fantastic. The sleeping berths at Kaiko-na are narrow and feel a bit cramped. Overall, though, it’s a very nice mountain hut.

The portion of curry for dinner was simply too large; I found it quite a struggle to finish every last grain. The woman sitting next to me only ate half of hers. I thought to myself that leaving leftovers in the mountains didn’t seem quite right. Since we could get unlimited refills, maybe they should reduce the initial portion size a bit? One young man took on the “Five Dragons” challenge—a second helping—and actually managed to finish the whole thing. Impressive. The mountain lodge staff were efficient and professional, which was very reassuring. The restrooms were very clean and comfortable.
