5This was the first time I’ve ever enjoyed such a comfortable hot spring in the mountains! The staff from Taiwan were very friendly, and all my friends loved it. The only minor downside was that there wasn’t a drying room.
We’re so happy you and your friends enjoyed our hot spring deep in the mountains, and that our staff made your stay even warmer. Thank you for the photo full of smiles, too. Hakuba Yari Onsen sits in an area affected by avalanches and heavy snow, so the hut is built and dismantled every year. This limits the facilities we can offer, but we’ll continue to protect the hot spring that can only be enjoyed in this very place. We look forward to welcoming you all back to the mountains of Hakuba, in the Japanese Alps.

5The facility itself is simple, but the hot springs lived up to their reputation (the view was amazing). Even when I was debating whether to cancel my stay and head down the mountain because a typhoon was approaching, the staff remained kind and patient throughout, never pressuring me to make a decision. The hayashi rice and hamburger steak for dinner were excellent. I’d love to stay there again.
We're so glad you enjoyed the hot spring and its views. Thank you for the photo, too. Yari Onsen Hut is built every summer and taken down every autumn to withstand the heavy winter snow and avalanches. That keeps our facilities simple, but we hope the hot spring, the scenery, and our meals make up for it. Deciding what to do with a typhoon approaching must have been stressful, and we're relieved you were able to feel at ease with us. We look forward to welcoming you back to the mountains of Hakuba, in the Japanese Alps.

5This was a great mountain onsen! The hike down from Hacuba Sanso was trickier as you got closer to the onsen, but a lot of fun! The bathrooms at Yari Onsen are to be expected for a mountain hut. Some guests could clean up after themselves a little better. The shared sleeping quarters are very nice & they grouped people booked together in the same spots rather than separating by gender which was ideal. The meals were very good but they definitely rushed everyone in and out. After 10 minutes at the table they started taking things away even though we were supposed to have 30 minutes. It made it feel a little less welcome to get extra helpings of tea, soup, and rice. The lack of a drying room was tough for rainy weather - jackets and rain covers had to be stored on a leaky porch and just stayed wet rather than drying at all. Outdoor and women’s indoor onsen were great. Outdoor has no privacy from passing hikers though if you prefer to be naked, but awim suits are ok. Overall a great stay!
We're so glad you enjoyed the hot spring, and the hike down from Hakuba Sanso too. Thank you for sharing your photos. It's encouraging to hear you liked how we arranged the shared sleeping quarters by group. At the same time, we're sorry you felt rushed during meals. We'll review how we run mealtimes so guests can take their time and feel welcome to ask for refills. As for a drying room, the hut has to be set up and taken down every year because of the heavy snow, which limits what facilities we can offer, but we'll keep looking for ways to make rainy days easier. We look forward to welcoming you back to the mountains of Hakuba, in the Japanese Alps.

5Unfortunately, it was foggy, but the 100% natural-flow hot spring was wonderful—it’s a place that hot spring enthusiasts will find irresistible. I was delighted that the staff served us with smiles, and I appreciated that we could have seconds of rice and miso soup (soup) for both dinner and breakfast. I’d like to visit again when the weather is more stable. Thank you very much.
Hearing that from a true hot spring lover means a great deal to us. Thank you for the photos, too. Even wrapped in fog, the hut has a charm of its own. We're glad our staff's smiles and the refills of rice and miso soup added to your stay. Next time, we hope the skies are clear when we welcome you back to the mountains of Hakuba, in the Japanese Alps.

5The staff was friendly and left a very good impression. The hot springs were fantastic. The mattresses in the cabins were firm—just the way I like them. The ohagi at the gift shop were delicious. I’d love to have them again. The salmon bento was delicious. My only wish was that there had been a drying room.
We're delighted the friendly service and the atmosphere left such a good impression, and glad the hot spring helped you unwind. Thank you for the kind words about the firm mattress, the ohagi and the salmon bento from our shop as well — it really means a lot. We'll keep your comment about the drying room in mind for the future. Thank you also for the lovely photos. We hope to welcome you back to the mountains of Hakuba, in the Japanese Alps.

5I stayed in a tent. The view was amazing. Being able to walk just 10 seconds from my tent to an open-air hot spring with unlimited access felt like heaven. Watching the sunrise from the hot spring was a breathtaking sight you can only experience here. I can’t wait to go back!
Thank you for staying with us in your tent. Being just ten seconds from the tent site to the open-air hot spring really does sound like a slice of paradise. The sunrise view from the bath is something you can only experience in that exact spot. Thank you also for the beautiful photo. We hope to welcome you back to the mountains of Hakuba, in the Japanese Alps.

5Thank you so much for your hospitality. I was truly impressed by the hearty miso soup served at breakfast. Since it’s hard to get enough vegetables up here in the mountains, I really appreciated it. I also appreciated being able to use the bath from check-in until 7:00 a.m. the next morning—I ended up taking three baths. During my third bath, I was able to see the stars and the sunrise just before dawn, making it an unforgettable experience.
We're delighted to hear our breakfast miso soup, packed with vegetables, left such an impression. We're glad it could help make up for the vegetables that are often hard to come by up in the mountains. It's an honor to hear you were able to enjoy the hot spring three times, and that the third visit brought you an unforgettable moment with the stars before dawn and the sunrise. Thank you for sharing your photos as well. We hope to welcome you back to the mountains of Hakuba, in the Japanese Alps.

5This is the second year in a row we’ve visited. As always, our time at the hot springs was wonderful. The meat bento we had the next day was delicious, and eating it on our way down the mountain gave us the energy we needed. Thank you very much.
Thank you for visiting us two years in a row, and we're so glad your time at the hot spring was the highlight once again. It's great to hear the meat bento the next day was delicious, and that it gave you strength on your way down the mountain. Thank you for sharing your photos as well. We hope to welcome you back to the mountains of Hakuba, in the Japanese Alps.

Thank you for your hospitality. Since the building is torn down and rebuilt every year, I can’t really evaluate the rooms. I’m truly grateful just to have been able to stay here. I’m over 60 and just started hiking this year, but this was a truly memorable experience. I stayed here with my daughter; at first, she was reluctant to share a room, but once we were there, she really warmed up to it, so I think we’ll be back next year. I was also surprised to find that the toilets were simple flush toilets. Thank you very much.
Thank you for your kind understanding of how our hut is built and taken down every year. We’re truly happy that your climb, so soon after taking up hiking, became such a moving experience, and that your daughter came to enjoy the shared room despite her initial hesitation. Thank you for the beautiful sunset and sunrise photos, too. We hope to welcome you both back to the mountains of Hakuba, in the Japanese Alps, for your next adventure together.
