3.1345Although there were only dorm-style rooms, each person had about one tatami mat of space, which was plenty for sleeping. Since there’s no electricity, it gets pitch black once the sun goes down, so a flashlight is a must. All the meals were delicious, the portions were generous, and I was very satisfied.

4We stayed at the Hakuba Oike Mountain Lodge as a base for our climb up Mt. Hakuba. The lodge had a wonderful, unique mountain hut atmosphere, and we were able to enjoy a delightful mountain trip with stunning views♪ The rooms were shared dorm-style with no partitions. Although the capacity was six people, for some reason two guests didn’t show up this time, so we ended up sharing the room with just four of us. Since we were scheduled to depart at 3:30 a.m. the next morning, I consulted the staff about getting ready early in the morning, and they suggested we use the dining room and lounge. They explained that, under certain conditions, guests can use the dining room/lounge to get ready for an early morning departure. To avoid disturbing other guests’ sleep, it’s best to check with the staff beforehand and make sure to prepare quietly♪ In the dining room/lounge, guests can use water and hot water for free. It was really helpful to be able to stock up on water in preparation for the next day’s hike. Dinner was a hamburger steak, and we could get refills on rice and soup, so I had a hearty meal! The morning bento was also very filling, and I could tell they’d thought about replenishing energy and salt intake. This time, I also ordered lunch, which was truly appreciated for such a long hike♪ The next morning, we set out at 3:30 a.m. for Mt. Hakuba. We were treated to unforgettable, breathtaking views—a sea of clouds, the sunrise, and the Morgenrot. It was a special mountain journey that we could only have enjoyed because we stayed at Hakuba Oike Mountain Lodge. Thank you so much to all the staff who supported our lodging and meals up on the mountain! Thanks to you, my husband and I were able to create wonderful memories together! Next time, we’d like to try camping and come back to enjoy the beautiful scenery of Hakuba Oike again♪
4This was my first time staying at a mountain lodge. Although it was fully booked and there were some inconveniences, I was pleased that the staff worked together to handle everything smoothly.

3Since it was just two days before the lodge closed for the season, the windows were already shut, so there was no view from the room, and it was pitch black—I couldn’t even take a photo of the lights—which made me feel really claustrophobic. It was better than a mountain lodge where everyone is crammed into a single large room, since we had a private space for six people, but it would have been even better if the futons had been a little bigger. I really appreciated that water and hot water were provided free of charge, and that Wi-Fi was available at no cost—it was a huge help. Thank you for your hospitality. Thanks to you, I was able to make the round trip from Tsugaike to Mt. Hakuba and back to Tsugaike in one night and two days. Thank you very much.

4It felt like a more compact mountain lodge than I had imagined from the website. I’d like to go back if they had private rooms. It was great that I could change my reservation date without any additional fees. This isn’t the lodge’s fault, but there were so many foreign visitors that I started missing the Japanese language.

5This was my first time visiting, and I was pleased with the courteous service at the front desk. I was very impressed by how the staff carefully administered first aid to an injured hiker while showing genuine concern, and then provided advice on what to do next. I stayed in a tent this time, but I’d like to try staying at the mountain hut next time.

There were two of us. It had been a while since we’d camped in a tent, but we each got to relax in our own tents and explore other areas—it turned out to be a place where we could both enjoy ourselves. We had a relaxing time.
