I climbed Mt. Hakuba with the Super Mountaineering Club—was that the summit of Isseki in the Northern Alps’ “Hole Walk”? It was great to be able to “kill three birds with one stone,” but since we took the route from Tsugaike, the timing was a bit tight. The mountain lodge was nice and clean, but having a bento box for dinner right after the concert ended felt a little lonely. The food wasn’t bad, though! Also, since my semi-private room was in a corner, it was a bit dark. Those are my main complaints. The semi-private room itself was spacious and comfortable. Also, standing throughout the concert was exhausting! After a hike, I really need to sit down—it’s getting tough for someone my age! Some people even fainted.

It was awesome that we miraculously managed to get a private room. Both the futons and the room were way better than what you'd expect from a mountain cabin.

Excellent! This was my first time staying in a sanso and it was easy to navigate, very well set up and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The system works really well to support your hikes. It's way nicer than I expected, it's really more like a hotel in the sky with running water, drying room, heating and full bidet systems for the toilets. The food was plentiful and delicious. I also got a bento box and that was the perfect lunch for on the trail. I will be back for more mountain exploring!

I stayed there on August 31. It was a really nice mountain lodge. The restrooms were clean, the rooms were thoroughly cleaned, and the drying room was spacious enough that my clothes dried perfectly. The Sky Plaza has sturdy tables and chairs, creating a wonderful atmosphere. The staff were full of energy and really lifted my spirits. The next day, I opted for a packed lunch instead of breakfast, and it was perfectly balanced and delicious. This is definitely a mountain lodge I’d love to stay at again.

I knew this was still a mountain I wasn’t ready to climb, but I’ve always wanted to stay at Hakuba Mountain Lodge!! A few years ago, I was just looking at photos, filled with nothing but longing— and now my dream has finally come true!! The lodge was even more wonderful than I’d imagined. The staff were all so kind, and I realized that this cozy atmosphere is all thanks to them— it’s wonderful, and I have the utmost respect for them. What’s more, even at such a high altitude, I was surprised at how clean the restrooms were! Everything—from the rooms to the rest of the lodge—was spotless, and I had a very comfortable and pleasant stay. The Sky Plaza Restaurant, high above the clouds, was nothing but surprises and awe—the stunning views and dining while enjoying an elegant, luxurious experience were simply the best! I was deeply moved by the “Classical Music in the Sky” concert held at Sky Plaza that night. The beautiful tones of the viola and piano truly resonated in my heart! Being able to listen to such wonderful music amidst the majestic scenery at an altitude of 2,800 meters was a true reward in my life. The city lights seen from the lodge at night, the sky full of stars— I’ll never forget the time I spent at Hakuba Sanso. Thank you so much. I’ll definitely be back next year.

The cotton quilt is very warm, and the staff are very friendly.
